Homecare Award Success for Paterson Health & Social Care Worker, Tom Gitonga
Paterson Health & Social Care is pleased to announce that, Tom Gitonga, one of the company’s longest-serving workers, has been awarded ‘Homecare Worker of the Year’ at the 2019 Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers (OACP) Annual Conference, AGM and Awards on Friday, 22nd March. Tom received this accolade following a year’s close work with a young adult from Oxfordshire who has a physical disability.
Tom’s work over the last year has enhanced this young person’s life by empowering him and giving him a brighter outlook for the future. Building a positive professional relationship and ensuring all of the service-user’s needs are understood and accounted for, has allowed Tom to help this young adult flourish and for him to begin to take more control of his finances, medical appointments and day-to-day activities.
Tom has been extremely committed to his work since he started with Paterson Health & Social Care in May 2000. His charm, infectious positivity and brilliant sense of humour make him the ideal adult health and social care worker, and a person who certainly deserves this honour. Upon acceptance of his award, Tom said: “We did it together!” to representatives from The Paterson Group, a testament to his team spirit and humility.
The Paterson Group’s Managing Director, Tracey Campbell, was in attendance at the ceremony, along with several others from the team, and said, “We all had our fingers crossed for Tom as we know how much he deserves this. He’s worked so hard for us for nearly 20 years and has made such a difference to the quality of life of this young adult. Many of us had tears in our eyes when his name was announced as the winner. I couldn’t be more pleased!”
